News Letter Ascension Sunday 04th May 2008

REFLECTION

The feast of the Ascension celebrates  the physical separation of Jesus
from the human story, but this text promises his
continual presence ‘to the end of time’.
After three years, living, working and praying with the disciples,
Jesus commissions them to continue his work in the world.
This is a difficult challenge for some of the disciples who,
although prepared to go to the appointed place, still hesitate!
Despite their misgivings and fragile faith, he sends them out to all nations.
Jesus has been given the authority that was once the exclusive domain
of the God of Israel; Jesus has become the presence of the living God
and his presence will continue with his disciples through the Holy Spirit

IMPORTANT INFORMATION!
Please note: For your safety, the tiles at the main entrance of the church have been treated this week with an Anti-Slip treatment.

Billets for WYD Pilgrims  If you offered last year to help us by hosting Pilgrims in July (10/11/12/13 approx dates) you should have received a letter and a form to complete and return to us as soon as possible.  If you didn’t get a letter or your circumstances have changed and you wish to put your name forward then please contact the office as soon as possible 480 7357 or mail us at st-mary@xtra.co.nz we are now at a stage where we need to start to ‘firm things up’.   If you haven’t yet returned your form please do so this week - Thank you

WEEKEND MINISTRIES, DO YOU WANT TO BECOME MORE INVOLVED IN OUR PARISH?
A SINCERE THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR VOLUNTEERS!  However, there are several areas in which we need more people power!
Computer/Projector Operator: for the 5.30pm Vigil Mass - training to take place next week!
Altar Servers: for the 5.30pm Saturday Vigil, 8.30am and 5.00pm Sunday Masses– training will take place later this month.  You must have made your First Holy Communion, there is no upper age limit, in fact older youth would be most welcome.  Younger children must check with their parents before volunteering.
Ministers of the Word: we have a need for readers at our 5.30 Saturday Vigil Mass and the 5.00pm Sunday Mass. Training and formation is scheduled for 13th and 20th May sessions commence at 7.30pm
If you would like to volunteer for any of the above (please call the office on 480 7357), or you are a current minister it is vitally important that you are here in good time, so that everything is in place  and we are ready to start 5 minutes  before Mass commences.  This is especially important so that Father doesn’t have to rush around finding people to help at the last minute, and it will be extremely
important when Fr Ivan is able to return to Northcote.
Mass Coordinators—30 mins. before Mass   Ministers of Communion - 20 mins. before Mass (if your are No. 1 or 2) other ministers 10 mins. before Mass.  Altar Servers - 20 minutes before Mass Computer Projectionists - 20 mins. before Mass  Ministers of the Word - 10 mins. before Mass.
