Mr. Iain Gaille
Chairman, PPC & Finance Committee
Hi my name is Iain Gallie….
I have been a member of St Mary’s Parish for the last 10 years after immigrating to New Zealand from England for the second time. I first came to New Zealand with my parents in 1974 and after going to school here decided to head back for an OE and stayed there for the next 12 years!
However the lifestyle beckoned me back and after developing a career in security, fraud investigations and law enforcement in England I have continued in a similar role with one of the Banks who have a great community presence here in Auckland.
My involvement in St Mary’s Parish began when I met my wife Michelle W
illis, whose family has been involved in this parish for many years. We were married 9 years ago at St Mary’s and have two lovely children – Ryan who is 7 years old and Mason who is now 4 years old. We have found that the Parish provides a great atmosphere of welcome and support for families and individuals alike and it is that spirit that I would like to see continued in the future.
I believe my strengths include an open and enquiring mind, analytical skills, an ability to communicate effectively at all levels with an empathetic approach and it is some of those attributes that I hope I display in chairing the Parish Pastoral Council to serve your needs.
Thank you for your continued support……
Mr. John Lis
Vice-Chairman, PPC
Originally from Wellington, I married Wanda from Auckland at St Mary's in the mid 80's. We have lived in Auckland for the past 18 years and have three girls, Sophie and Ella both attend Carmel College. Our youngest Nina attends CCD at St Mary’s and is presently preparing for first holy communion.
I am enjoying my time on the Parish Council. St Mary’s is a vibrant parish community with diverse nationalities. There is always something happening and it’s great to be part of the team that helps the parish work. Both Wanda and I helped to run the Baptism course at St Mary's for a few years. I'm from Polish decent, keen on soccer and formula one. I work locally as an accountant and spend most of my spare time running between the girls’ cricket, water polo, rowing etc.

My name is Anna Bayne and I have been a parishioner for the past six years. I teach at our parish school – and do so with great pride. I have a husband, Shaun, two wonderful daughters and two delightful son-in-laws. Shaun is of Irish/Scottish decent while I have an all Italian background. Bearing that in mind; food and family play important roles in my life. I am a keen gardener and reader. I enjoy serving on the parish council as it keeps me informed and connected.
Antony Vodanovich
Member, PPC
Hi my name is Antony Vodanovich, this is my 3rd year serving on the Parish Council.
As the Parish Representative on the Regional Pastoral Council (RPC) the quarterly meetings bring me into contact with reps from all the other North Shore
Parishes (as far North as Wellsford). It's great to share our common faith experiences and challenges thus re-affirming we are all part of the larger Body of Christ.
My family have a long tradition at St Marys my siblings went to school here...I went to primary school with Fr Craig and Fr Ivan is a distant relation from Croatia. My wife Kristen and I moved into Birkenhead 7 years ago and with our young family have enjoyed Parish life. We have 3 children, our oldest daughter Anija attends St Marys and Georgia will start later this year. Baby Ethan is only 15mths old.
With a very busy home and a challenging job - there is never enough time, my Catholic faith grounds me. I have enjoyed serving the Parish and look forward to the future. God Bless you all.
Marianne Bray
Member, PPC
My name is Marianne Bray and I have been a parishioner at St Marys for six years. My role on the Parish Team is children’s formation – so I am responsible for children’s liturgy, the sacramental programme and CCD. I love working with children – my background is in teaching and BC (before children!) I worked as a secondary teacher at St Mary’s in Ponsonby. I have also taught primary in the UK. I am married to Rod Bray and have three lovely children – aged six, four and two. I am also involved in various groups and committees – from the Toy Library to Voice for Life. So life is busy!
I feel very privileged to work with the families at St Marys – the children are a real joy and it is great to see little seeds of faith being planted. In many ways they are the teachers!
