Bishops' Statement on Euthanasia
Often we only hear one side of the debate around euthanasia, which omits or downplays the risks it presents to society. Our bishops have released a statement titled ‘The Dangers of Euthanasia’ which outlines many of these risks. Available on line www.catholic.org.nz under ‘Bishops’ Statements’

ProLife Facts  Members of the Hauraki, Waihi and Paeroa branches of Voice for Life have been holding protests against abortion outside Thames Hospital every Friday morning since November 18th last year. Their protest is non-confrontational and they offer support to anyone needing help. They have a strong core of people from various religious faiths coming along, plus members of the public sometimes join them. A pleasant surprise is the amount of  support from passing traffic. Several people stop to discuss the issue and are very civil in doing so. They have also had the chance to have supportive and caring conversations with some people who have been involved in
abortions, including a nurse who was bullied into taking part in abortions even though she objected. For more info. Voice for Life (09) 443 0995

Sabbatical It’s with excitement that I am able to tell you that, with the Bishops blessing, I have applied to the North American college in Rome to do a three month sabbatical. It has just been confirmed that I have been accepted on the course, including a short period of study in the Holy Land. This means I will be out of the parish from the end of August until the end of November. Then I will resume my time here at St Marys full of stories and materials for homilies after walking the footsteps of Christ and his Apostles. Fr. Craig
